Political Science Departmental Scholarship

The Political Science Departmental Scholarship provides a waiver of tuition (not to include student fees), up to 18 credit hours, for both semesters (Fall and Spring) in one academic year to students who have a demonstrated record of academic excellence. Continuing Students, Incoming Freshman and Transfer students are welcome to apply.

Maurice warshaw scholarship

The Maurice Warshaw Scholarship honors the humanitarian and international vision of Maurice Warshaw, who was on the Board of Directors for UNICEF and CARE. This scholarship provides a waiver of tuition (not to include student fees), up to 18 credit hours, for both semesters (Fall and Spring) in one academic year to students who have a demonstrated record of academic excellence and financial need. Incoming Freshman are welcome to apply.

J.D. Williams scholarship

Professor Emeritus J.D. Williams was an honored faculty member of the Political Science Department at the University of Utah from 1952 until his retirement in 1992. The scholarship is awarded to students who have a demonstrated record of academic excellence and financial need, providing the amount of tuition and fees, up to 15 credit hours, for one semester (Fall or Spring) in one academic year. Continuing Students, Incoming Freshman and Transfer students are welcome to apply, with preference given to Incoming Freshman.

Marion and Arthur boyd scholarship

Distinguished Political Science Alumni, John A. Boyd, established this scholarship to honor the dedication of his parents in providing a college education for their son, despite great economic hardship. The scholarship is awarded to students who have a demonstrated record of academic excellence and financial need, providing the amount of tuition and fees, up to 15 credit hours, for one semester (Fall or Spring) in one academic year. Continuing Students, Incoming Freshman and Transfer students are welcome to apply.

J. Ralph Brown Memorial Scholarship

Initiated in 1991 to honor the committment to the civic involvement and lifelong career of service of J. Ralph Brown (BS 1935), this scholarship is awarded to worthy graduate or undergraduate students in order to provide financial assistance.

Richard and virginia Eskelsen Scholarship

After a decade of contribution to the University of Utah, Richard Eskelsen, (BS 1954), and his wife Virginia established a scholarship fund in 2002 that would support undergraduate students in their efforts to be politically active. Continuing Students, Incoming Freshman and Transfer students are welcome to apply.

All Scholarships awarded through the Political Science Department at the University of Utah require the following criteria be met:
  • Students must be matriculated (degree-seeking) with the University of Utah.
  • Students must a declared Political Science major.
  • Recipients of scholarship awards must enroll in at least one Political Science course in each semester (Fall and Spring) of the academic year for which they recieve the award.
  • Recipients of scholarship awards must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours) in each semester (Fall and Spring) of the academic year for which they recieve the award.
  • Recipients of scholarship awards must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 in each semester (Fall and Spring) of the academic year for which they recieve the award.

Applicants will be considered for any, and all, scholarships available through the Political Department and for which they may qualify.

how to Apply

For scholarships offered by the Political Science Department:

  • Complete a FAFSA and print your Student Aid Report (SAR);
  • Obtain official academic transcripts;
  • Request letters of recommendation from from instructors, teachers, faculty or academic program advisors. You must have a minimum of three (3) letters;
  • Complete and sign the APPLICATION PACKET FOR UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS;
  • Mail or deliver the Application Packet with all supporting documentation to the Political Science Department at the University of Utah.
