Biography

Professor Ott was a management consultant for more than 20 years, working mostly with units of city, county, and state government, and nonprofit organizations that contract with government agencies to deliver services. He was on the faculty of the Department of Public Administration at the University of Maine for five years before moving to the University of Utah in 1992.

Research Interests

Professor Ott's publications have been mostly in the fields of organization theory, administrative theory, organizational behavior, organizational culture, interfaces between organizations in the public and nonprofit sectors, public management, and rural development. He is author, co-author, editor or co-editor of the following books: Classic Readings in Organizational Behavior (3rd ed., 2003), The Nature of the Nonprofit Sector (2001), Classics of Organization Theory (5th ed., 2001), Understanding Nonprofit Organizations (2001), Introduction to Public Administration (2001), Public Administration for the Twenty-first Century (1998), New Governance for Rural America (1996), Classics of Organization Theory (4th edition, 1996), Classic Readings in Organizational Behavior (2nd edition, 1996), Public Management (1991), The Nonprofit Organization (1990), The Organizational Culture Perspective (1989), The Facts on File Dictionary of Health Care Management (1988), and The Facts on File Dictionary of Nonprofit Organization Management (1986). Professor Ott teaches courses in public administration, nonprofit organizations, administrative theory, the practice of public management, and organizational change.
