I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Utah. I teach courses in International Relations Theory and World Politics, United States Foreign Policy and Comparative Foreign Policy, and Security Studies. I received my Ph.D from UCLA, my M.A. from New York University, and my B.A. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
My publications include a recent book, The Challenge of Hegemony: Grand Strategy, Trade, and Domestic Politics (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 2003, paperback 2005) and a co-edited book, Ethnic Conflict and International Politics: Explaining Diffusion and Escalation (New York: Palgrave, 2004), articles in Conflict Management and Peace Science, International Studies Quarterly, Review of International Studies, Security Studies, Comparative Strategy, and World Affairs, and forthcoming articles in International Interactions, International Politics, and International Relations of the Asia-Pacific.
