Research and Teaching Interests:

Ronald Hrebenar is Professor of Political Science and has been a faculty member at the University of Utah since 1973. He is the author, editor or co-editor of 15 books and over 50 articles and book chapters on the topics of interest groups, lobbying, political parties and elections in the United States, Japan and Europe. Dr. Hrebenar teaches courses on American politics and American political behavior as well as Japanese politics and government. Dr. Hrebenar is a former chair of the Political Science Department (2000-2007) and former Director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah (2003-2005). He is currently the Associate Director of the Asian Studies Program at the University of Utah. He was a Fulbright Visiting Professor of Political Science and Law at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan (1982-83); Fulbright Distinguished Professor of American Studies at the University of Vienna (2007-08) and frequent visiting professor at Meiji University (Japan), Daito Bunka University (Japan) and Akita International University (Japan). Among his recent books are Lobbying in America (2009). Parties, Interest Groups and Political Campaigns (2008); Japan's New Party System(2000); and Interest Group Politics in America (1997).
